Amina's Epiphany

Amina's Epiphany
"Cmon, that money is small" Amina lamented over the phone.

"See I understand, its not my fault I want to pay more but there is a budget and we can't increase the budget" the person replied.

Amina was tempted to turn down the offer because she took pride in her work and knew even if they paid peanuts she would do a premium job. One of her core principles was "never accept the work if you won't do it well."

She needed the money, Iye's drugs was almost finished and the bills were piling. The pay for the gig was just enough to buy her mom's drugs and pay the bills. She knew the client paid more, but the middlemen were greedy and exploited young talents. Away from her thoughts, a boy pushing his younger sister in a wheelbarrow caught her attention, the happiness and smile on the little girl's face was contagious, immediately she brought out her camera and took a picture of them.

Two weeks later, she received a DM from a renowned artist asking her to frame the picture for him. She delivered the job herself to his gallery. "How much do I pay you" he asked. "I don't know what to say just pay what you feel, '' Amina replied.

The artist smiled, reached for his pocket and gave her 20k. She was once again hit with another disappointment. As she about to leave the premises, when he called her back. He offered her coffee and started "I saw the disappointment on your face when I gave you 20k. I know people exploit you, and it is all your fault. You let people determine your worth and when you let them do that they exploit you. I saw your portfolio and your work is solid and professional. Amina, the moment you walk out of that door let it be the last time you settle for less"

After his speech he gave her $2000 for the picture. Her life changed that day and her path became clearer.
